About the Michael Levin Base

A home in Jerusalem for lone soldiers

Lone soldiers serve in the IDF without parents in Israel. Some made aliyah on their own, and some are Israelis whose parents have died or who are estranged from them. The Michael Levin Base gives them, and young women doing National Service (b’not sherut) in the same situation, a home away from home in Jerusalem: Shabbat and holiday meals, one-on-one counseling, practical help, and a community to come back to.

The Base is named for Michael Levin, an American who made aliyah and served as a lone soldier in the Paratroopers. He was killed in the Second Lebanon War in 2006, at 22. His parents asked that a place like this be built in his memory.

FAQ

What is Ribfest?

An annual event on an early Friday night to come together to eat great ribs (all types of meat really), have some l’chaims, and raise some money.

Why is it $136 per person?

The main goal of Ribfest is to raise money for causes near and dear to us. Proceeds are split 50/50 between the Michael Levin Base in Jerusalem and YIS. We expect to spend about $45 per person on food and drinks, and the remainder is split between the two charities.

Can I donate more?

Yes. Add a sponsorship to your RSVP. The Lamb Chop Sponsorship includes 1 ticket and the Rib Sponsorship includes 2. If you can’t make it, choose “I can’t make it, but would like to give.” For anything else, reach out to Eytan Baratz directly.

Is this Friday night dinner?

You MUST come hungry or you will regret it. I repeat, do not have a first course of soup or fish before this. We will have challah if you want to wash here, and there will be plenty of kiddush available.

When do I need to RSVP by?

Please RSVP by December 20. We order the meat based on the headcount.

I need to add someone or change my RSVP.

Fill out the RSVP again using the same email address. Your new answer replaces the old one, so guests and money are never counted twice. The confirmation shows exactly what’s left to pay. If you already paid, you only send the difference. Please use the same email: a different one creates a second RSVP.
